See the Light: What Is LED Light Therapy

It might surprise you to learn how much modern technology we use here at our small family salon. One machine in particular is a fond favourite because it can be utilised on it’s own, or as part of any facial in a smaller amount: our BT-Accent LED light.

What is LED light therapy?

LED light has been shown to help improve skin condition by boosting collagen production, killing bad bacteria, and soothing the skin to promote healing. No UV is produced making it ultra safe for all skins, and the wavelengths of light have been clinically proven to improve the skin’s health. More details about clinical studies can be found here, particularly it’s effectiveness in anti-ageing.

How can it help my skin?

Different lights have different effects. So the popular red light has been shown to stimulate collagen production, help with healing and improve the look and feel of ageing skin. On the otherhand, blue light is antibacterial and antimicrobial so is great for acne-prone skin. Lights can also be combined, so in our case we can create a purple light that utilises the best of both.
Other light colours are available, but here at the salon we only have access to the two most effective colours: red and blue.

Are there any dangers in using it?

Studies have not shown any particular dangers. It does not produce ultraviolet so there is no risk of burning or skin cancer. It is great for all skins, even sensitive skins. We would not advise it’s use for clients with epilepsy, or light induced migraines.

How do you use it?

During a standard 60 minute facial it can be used in a short burst to help the penetration of products. In our luxury 90 minute facial it is used for an extended period of time to really ramp up the skin and deliver fast results (especially along side the chemical peel!). Alternatively, we can customise a light therapy facial for you that can give you up to 30 minutes of light therapy while you relax in our treatment rooms (beneficial for problematic skins).
